3 Things Not to Miss on a Ski Break in Tignes
Explore magnificent Tignes Lake, Grande Motte Glacier, or Lac du Chevril with guided tours from
your catered ski chalet. Tignes is for everyone!
(firmenpresse) - Winter is a great time to pack your bags, hop on a plane, and go for a holiday in a ski-resort!
If you are a fan of all things snow, look no further than Tignes.
Located in the east of the Savoie region in the northern French Alps, the resort is one of the
largest ski areas in the world. With an altitude ranging from 1550m to 3455m, it appeals to a
wide range of people, from amateur to professional skiers. In addition, there’s a wide range of
resorts surrounding the area, such as Val Claret and Tignes Le Lac, for instance.
The resort is adorned with fantastic accommodation, which includes hotels of different sizes,
B&Bs, complexes, or a catered ski chalet. Tignes has everything you need for a memorable winter
holiday, but there is also a lot to see and do other than skiing. Read on to find out more.
The Glacier
Glacier de la Grande Motte is the highest point in Tignes, standing at more than 3000 m. Only
seasoned skiers go this high, however, because it can be challenging and dangerous for amateurs.
Don’t feel like skiing but want to experience what the glacier can offer to the fullest?
You can!
There’s a long list of activities that you can take part in, including donning your hiking boots
to go glacier hiking with guided tours right out of your catered ski chalet. Tignes adventures
also include enjoying the thrill of driving a snowmobile or going ice climbing, if you’re not
scared of heights. You can admire the spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and valleys
from the cable car, or check out the observation platform, where you can view the beautiful
scenery of the Alps and the surrounding landscape.
The Lake
Glistening with sheer light in summer and gleaming with lustrous white snow and ice in the
winter, the lakes in this area are nothing short of perfection. There are so many lakes to explore
and many activities to do when there. At the heart of the resort is Lac de Tignes. Water melting
and cascading down from the Grande Motte glacier is collected in this lake and in winter it
freezes, providing a path between Tignes and Val Claret. In addition, it also plays host to
various activities, which include ice skating, ice diving (for the more adventurous), dog sledding,
and many more things.
The Dam
Tignes Dam, also known as Chevril Dam, is a magnificent man-made wonder that stands at an
altitude of 1800m. Located along the way to Val d'Isere, Chevril Dam has created Lac du Chevril
(these names refer to the same place). It is a must-see, with numerous activities to embark on
when you’re there. Surrounded by snow-covered mountains, the area has a lovely ambience if you’re
seeking some solitude away from your catered ski chalet. Tignes Dam offers an opportunity to
capture breathtaking views in a picturesque winter landscape.
One iconic feature to admire here is La Dame du Luc, a statue by the Italian artist Livio
Benedetti, which is situated between the bank and the road. Though barely recognizable, the dam
wall is a fresco depicting Hercules holding back the water with his own strength. You can take a
walk around and view this magnificent structure from all angles.
A winter holiday packed with various activities besides skiing appeals to people with different
tastes and preferences. So next time your group of friends or family plans a trip, consider a break
in a catered ski chalet. Tignes has beautiful scenery all around the resort, and there are
spectacular and fun activities suitable for everyone.
