Ardmore Animal Hospital Vet Supports Philadelphia Non-Profit Pals for Life
(firmenpresse) - ARDMORE, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/27/11 -- Dr. Tam Mengine announced that she and her Siberian Husky, Oz, are actively involved in the non-profit organization Pals for Life. Pals for Life is Philadelphia's largest non-profit pet therapy group, which coordinates visits between volunteer pets and individuals in need of the joy, comfort and unconditional love that a pet brings. With Dr. Mengine's assistance, Oz visits nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and children's programs. Dr. Mengine is a veterinarian at Ardmore Animal Hospital. Dr. Tam Mengine, a veterinarian with , is actively involved in the non-profit organization Pals for Life. is Philadelphia's largest non-profit pet therapy group. Each year, the group makes over 700 visits to 70 different facilities, bringing joy, comfort and unconditional love to those who need it most.
Dr. Mengine supports the non-profit's mission by taking her Siberian Husky, Oz, to regular pet therapy sessions, visiting nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and children's programs. Oz even provides much-needed stress relief to students on local college campuses during final exams week.
"Pals for Life is an amazing program that connects loving pets with individuals who truly need the affection and unconditional love of a pet, but for various reasons, are unable to have a pet of their own," said Dr. Mengine. "When I first adopted Oz, I realized that his natural love and exuberance at meeting new people would be the perfect fit for this important program."
While many of the pets involved in Pals for Life are cats and dogs, the program also includes guinea pigs, rabbits and a miniature horse. Pets must be up to date on all vaccinations and pass a training test to ensure that they will be suitable for visits. Volunteers who do not have a pet but would like to participate in the program can also do so by borrowing pets from local animal shelters. This opportunity also helps to connect homeless pets with new homes.
