Breweries from all over the country travel to Denver, Colorado each year, competing head to head for the ultimate prize: a beloved GABF gold medal.
This year, Black Star Beer () and the Great Northern Brewery () of Whitefish, Montana are headed to the 2011 Great American Beer Festival for a whole new reason. In addition to participating in GABF to win an award, they're also going to give the biggest beer buff the ultimate beer fan trophy!

It is not only for you that we brew beer, it is because of you that we try and brew the finest beer we can." is a traditional American-style pilsner beer from The Great Northern Brewery in Whitefish, Montana. Minott Wessinger, the great-great grandson of Pacific Northwest brewing pioneer Henry Weinhard, founded Black Star and the brewery in 1995 to brew fine lagers. The Great Northern Brewery has since expanded to brew additional quality beers available throughout Montana. Also being poured at the Great American Beer Festival will be the Great Northern Brewery's Wild Huckleberry Wheat and Wheatfish lagers.

This Black Star trophy isn't any ordinary award. Taller than your average beer fan, the trophy is outfitted with a working bronco tap handle, Black Star beer cans, branded steins, and a fully functioning iPod dock with speakers. To enter to win, festival goers must check-in on Facebook () via a mobile device or at Black Star and the Great Northern Brewery's booth -- Section E -- booth #18-20.
Black Star Beer's contest will close at 9pm on Friday, September 30th, saving Saturday to celebrate all of the brewers, breweries, and beers that have won competition medals. The biggest beer fan will be chosen at random. Black Star will contact the winner and award the ultimate beer fan trophy at their booth at approximately 9:30pm Friday evening. The winner must be present to receive this great honor. Due to its size and weight, the original trophy will reside in its original home The Great Northern Brewery in Whitefish, Montana, with the engraved name and picture of the winner prominently displayed on top. The winner will be given a replica of the trophy to take home.
To sweeten the deal for festival-goers, Black Star and the Great Northern Brewery are parking their vintage 1965 Airstream inside the convention center at their booth. Equipped with a digital photo booth, beer fans can take free pictures automatically emailed to them via WiFi and easily shared on Facebook and Twitter.
