Minister Kenney Issues Statement Recognizing Rosh Hashanah

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/28/11 -- The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, issued the following statement recognizing Rosh Hashanah:

"Today at sundown is the start of Rosh Hashanah - the Jewish New Year according to the Hebrew calendar. Rosh Hashanah is the start of the High Holy Days, a 10-day period of repentance which concludes with Yom Kippur - the Day of Atonement.

"Rosh Hashanah is a time to reflect on the past, take stock of the present and make resolutions for the year to come.

"For all Canadians, this important holiday provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Jewish faith and the numerous and valuable contributions of members of the Jewish community in Canada.

"As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I extend my best wishes for a healthy, happy and prosperous new year to Jewish people everywhere.
