Nearly five million Americans are currently fighting these two types of cancer and those numbers are expected to rise.
"Cutting Edge: Beating Breast and Prostate Cancer" is a one-hour look at the most advanced procedures, current medical trials and promising alternative therapies. Viewers will learn how innovative new treatments are saving lives without sacrificing quality of life. Surgeons and oncologists from the nation's top hospitals will share their knowledge and their optimism regarding potentially breakthrough regimens.
Viewers can also engage in the topic through a simultaneous live online chat on kare11.com/cuttingedge produced by MedCity Media. The chat will include doctors and other medical experts who will respond to viewers' questions as they watch the show.
News will also air a series of local companion stories leading up to the special on Oct. 4-7 on all newscasts. They include: inspiring personal accounts of successful cancer battles; a look at a pioneering way to treat breast cancer being done at the University of Minnesota; and a unique outreach program aimed at crossing cultures to help minority women in Minnesota.
