CFIA/Expanded Health Hazard Alert: Certain Compliments Brand Sensations Old-Style Smoked Ham may Contain Listeria Monocytogenes

The public warning issued on September 27, 2011 has been expanded to include an additional lot code.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Les Cuisines Gaspesiennes de Matane Ltee are warning the public not to consume the Compliments brand Sensations Old-Style Smoked Ham described below because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected Compliments brand Sensations Old-Style Smoked Ham is sold in 175 g packages bearing UPC 6 23682 10628 2, Lot Codes: 230 87 and 230 9487, and Best Before: 2011NO13
This product was distributed in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness, however, infections during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.
The manufacturer, Les Cuisines Gaspesiennes de Matane Ltee, Matane, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
