(firmenpresse) - MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/29/11 -- After last year's record-setting Fall Drive in which residents of Mississauga donated a record-breaking 134,000 lbs of food, is looking to beat that record as well as raise $50,000 by October 31. The Fall Drive is the largest annual food- and fund-raising event for The Mississauga Food Bank.

Reaching these goals will allow the 25-year old agency to feed 5,400 people for 7-10 days and distribute an additional $325,000 worth of food to community agencies. 17% of Mississauga residents live in poverty and a successful Fall Drive ensures The Mississauga Food Bank can feed our hungry neighbours this fall and winter. With an incredible 38,000 people receiving food from The Mississauga Food Bank each month, support from the community is needed during these crucial drives.

Donations can be made online at or by phone at 905.270.5589. Non-perishable food can be dropped off at all Mississauga fire halls year round and at grocery stores until October 31st. Volunteer teams will be distributing food donation bags at four Mississauga grocery stores on Thanksgiving weekend as teams of volunteers sort the donated food at the warehouse.

The this fall are canned fish and meat, peanut butter, protein beans, canned vegetables and fruit, and rice.

"We are looking to the Mississauga community to help us reach our food and fundraising goals for this drive," said Chris Hatch, Executive Director of The Mississauga Food Bank, "If the Mississauga community accepts the challenge like they did last year, we'll be sure to beat that 134,000 lb. record and raise $50,000."
