ICQ CELEBRATES 30 MIILION ACTIVE USERS
In March 2008 close to 12 billion messages were sent and received through ICQ world wide.
(firmenpresse) - Munich, May 19, 2008 - Since the launch 11 years ago, hundreds of millions of people have downloaded and benefitted from ICQ’s innovative and cutting edge technology (1). Today more than 30 million active users make up the international ICQ community and use the popular communication tool on a regular basis. This number marks an amazing, steady growth of active users in the past few years with almost 30% in the past year.
Every day more than 15,000,000 users log into ICQ generating more than 350,000,000 messages sent daily adding up to a remarkable sum of 12 billion monthly messages.
ICQ users are in more than 200 countries starting from a very strong presence with millions of users in Germany and Russia to two registered users in Samoa. 55% of ICQ users are males and 80% are between 13-29 years old (2).
ICQ’s success is due to the innovative offering as well as ICQ’s strong brand value. In a recent survey in Germany, Russia and the Czech Republic the ICQ brand was tagged with attributes such as “fun, cool, trendy and a must-have communication tool” (3).
According to Orey Gilliam, ICQ’s CEO: “In a time where the hype and the social media trend is calming down, we’re happy to announce that more than 30 million users now actively use ICQ. In the passing year we have witnessed a significant growth in the number of active users of ICQ. ICQ functions as a multi-platform communication center, allowing connection through various platforms and supplying services and content to the global community as well as to local communities”. Gilliam added that ICQ maintains its strategy to enlarge the number of active users through cooperation with local portals and media companies in selected territories and through expansion of a variety of services such as mobile connectivity, premium content, games etc.
