SEB ranked best bank in the Nordics by Carbon Disclosure Project 2009
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - SEB, the leading Nordic financial institution, has been voted thebest bank in the Nordics for addressing the issue of climate change,according to an annual survey undertaken by the Carbon DisclosureProject.Measures taken by SEB regarding climate change are part of a seriesof activities that commenced in 2008 when SEB began to addresssustainability issues on a deeper level.This year SEB began to offset its carbon footprint through aninvestment that provides rural population in the Ningxia Hui regionin China with solar cookers, which use the sun as energy sourceinstead of fossil fuel. The carbon offset is implemented according tothe UN certification scheme under the Kyoto Protocol and the projecthas CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) and Gold Standard quality.- We are highly ambitious when it comes to our sustainabilityperformance. This year we became the first Nordic bank to fullyoffset our carbon emissions and by 2015, we aim to have cut emissionsby 45 percent, "says SEB's President and CEO Annika Falkengren.The Carbon Disclosure Project is the world's largest survey of largecorporations' ambitions on climate change. A total of over 2,000companies responded to this year's survey. At a meeting in Stockholmon Tuesday the Nordic Report was presented, performed by SIRP at theUmeå School of Business, and which includes the 200 largest listedcompanies in the Nordics.SEB is a North European financial group serving some 400,000corporate customers and institutions and five million privateindividuals.
