SMS group signs contract with Qinghai Xigang New Materials Co., Ltd. for PSM380 mill upgrade and technical outsourcing services
(PresseBox) - SMS group has signed a major contract with Qinghai Xigang New Materials Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Xining Special Steel. The order comprises a comprehensive upgrade and related maintenance services for the PSM380 (Precision Sizing Mill) mill used to roll special steel bars, and is aimed at enhancing the mill’s production efficiency and product quality, thereby satisfying the end user’s requirements and further boosting Xigang New Materials’ competitive position in the special steel market in China.
Project background
Once implemented, the upgraded mill is expected to improve the products’ dimensional accuracy and effectively reduce labor costs in downstream processing stages. Additionally, process adjustments will be made to ensure that the mill meets the production demands of more diversified steel grades, particularly a better microstructure and higher quality standards in low-temperature rolling processes. These improvements are set to enhance Xigang’s product quality and increase its order volume in the future.
Upon project completion, the mill will be substantially more efficient in terms of changing specifications, downtimes will be reduced, and overall output increased. Moreover, the revamp will guarantee more consistent product quality, significantly reduce bar head and tail cropping, and improve yield, thereby boosting the line’s annual output.
Qinghai Xigang New Materials has signed a comprehensive maintenance contract with SMS, who will actively provide ongoing support as a lifecycle partner to maintain and grow the plant’s performance going forward.
Given Xigang’s increasing maintenance demands for its PSM380 mill, SMS has provided a comprehensive maintenance service package (TOS) based on its “lifecycle partnership” concept. This marks a new milestone for TOS services in China, effectively addressing customers’ concerns regarding equipment maintenance and providing strong support for their strategic goal of improving product quality.
This successful collaboration marks SMS’s further expansion into the Chinese market with its technical service business and injects new momentum into the continuous business development of Qinghai Xigang. Both parties look forward to achieving even more fruitful outcomes in future collaborations.
