On 22 March 2025, the German Interim Management Association (DDIM) hosted its first international conference for interim executives and providers from across Europe.


(PresseBox) - On 22 March 2025, the German Interim Management Association (DDIM) hosted its first international conference for interim executives and providers from across Europe. The International Interim Management Conference (IIMC) took place at the Pullman Cologne and brought together delegates from eleven countries, including the presidents of the INIMA partner associations.

Under the guiding theme “The Future of Interim Management in Europe”, around 100 participants explored the opportunities and challenges of international assignments. The conference delivered practical insights, strategic dialogue, and high-calibre networking opportunities.

A Strong Signal for a Unified Interim Management Community in Europe

Dr Marei Strack, Chair of the DDIM, opened the conference and warmly welcomed the presidents of the INIMA member associations from across Europe. In her speech, she highlighted the value of this international exchange – as a tangible expression of European cooperation, shared values, and the growing importance of cross-border interim management.

Strategic Interim Management in a Geopolitical Context

In his keynote address, Dr Thomas Schneider (EIM) emphasised the increasing strategic role of interim management amid economic uncertainty and geopolitical complexity. Through practical examples, he illustrated how interim managers are now acting as true transformation partners – not just short-term problem-solvers – adding real value to organisational change initiatives.

European Market Trends in Focus

Jonathan Selby, Chair of INIMA, presented the findings of the INIMA European Interim Management Survey 2025. Now in its fifth year, the survey highlights common challenges across national markets – such as fee pressure, rapid technological change, and the need for clear positioning.

In dedicated sessions, the presidents of INIMA associations from France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the Czech Republic offered insights into their respective national markets. For Germany, Dr Marei Strack expressed cautious optimism: DDIM expects a moderate recovery in 2025, with stable fee levels and slightly increasing demand.





Success Factors in International Interim Management

Manoj George (Valtus) outlined key success factors for international assignments, including intercultural competence, adaptive leadership, and precise personal positioning. These aspects were explored further in a panel discussion chaired by DDIM board member Rafael Apélian.

Best Practices and Case Studies from Europe and North America

International interim managers presented case studies from North America, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom – covering post-merger integration, digital transformation, crisis management and organisational turnaround. The follow-up discussions underscored the importance of cultural intelligence, agility and methodological excellence in achieving cross-border success.

The Future of Work: Spotlight on Open Talent Organisations

Looking ahead, Tilo Ferrari (Deutsche Interim AG) introduced the concept of Open Talent Organisations – platform-based networks that bring together interim executives, freelancers and digital talent. His core thesis: such models will only thrive if regulatory frameworks, particularly at EU level, evolve to support them.

Entering International Assignments – Practical Guidance

In a joint session, Annette Elias (Interim Profis) and Thomas Schulz (RAU Interim) shared actionable strategies for securing international assignments. Their advice: be clear on your positioning, ensure cultural fit, act fast, and bring strong personal presence. A subsequent panel discussion with experts from DDIM, INIMA and leading providers highlighted the importance of trust, personal branding, and local engagement in international contexts.

Building Relationships Across Borders

Alongside its rich content, the conference placed strong emphasis on personal connection. Delegates made full use of networking opportunities – during lunch, coffee breaks and the informal evening reception. The IIMC impressively demonstrated how collaboration, knowledge sharing and personal relationships are fundamental to international interim management.

Looking Ahead: A Call for Continuation

In her closing remarks, Dr Marei Strack underscored the importance of European collaboration and encouraged continuation of this successful format at future conferences hosted by INIMA member countries: “In times like these, it is more important than ever to foster European cooperation, strengthen our shared values, and advance interim management beyond national borders.”
