At the Helm: TYPO3 President Leads the Open Website Alliance
(PresseBox) - In February 2025, TYPO3 Association President Olivier Dobberkau was appointed President of the Open Website Alliance (OWA). The term rotates between the alliance members, and TYPO3 is currently leading the alliance during its six-month presidency.
The Open Website Alliance represents the content management systems (CMS) behind roughly 50% of all websites online today. The Open Website Alliance was co-founded by the Drupal Association, Open Source Matters (Joomla), the WordPress Project and the TYPO3 Association to promote the choice of open-source software and facilitate collaboration between free and open-source web content management projects, furthering openness, trust, and quality.
A Place for Collaboration and Learning from Others
Olivier has a clear vision of his role and the remainder of his term. He monitors the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) while assessing TYPO3’s position. He believes its impact should be shared with the community.
Focused on collaboration, he engages with the other CMS communities in the OWA to learn from others and understand how they operate within the open web.

TYPO3’s Role in Open Source Unity
In March 2025, Olivier attended Cloudfest, a large internet infrastructure conference, where he co-led the session Stronger, Safer, Open Source: Building a Secure and Sovereign Digital Future. He found the event insightful, with curiosity as its central theme. It was a prime opportunity for knowledge sharing and networking within the alliance.
From his perspective, TYPO3 holds a unique position in the alliance, catering to medium to large companies facing complex challenges. He notes that TYPO3 has evolved into an enterprise-focused CMS with a strong emphasis on content management and a robust feature offering.
Shared Ideas and Common Goal
At the crossroads of two presidencies, his perspective is unique and valuable. He envisions an open house where diverse individuals come together, share ideas, and collaborate toward a common goal. The OWA embodies this vision, fostering learning, mutual support, and a shared commitment to keeping open-source alive and thriving.
In the spirit of collaboration and openness, Olivier reminds everyone of the strong foundation open source is built on — one that is now at risk. For open source to succeed, collaboration and contributions must remain at the heart of the conversation.
Continued Open Source Commitment
Olivier emphasizes the importance of recognizing TYPO3 Ambassador Mathias Bolt Lesniak, calling him a true open-source advocate. Mathias dedicates his time to visiting emerging markets, debunking common misconceptions about open source, and recruiting new members to the TYPO3 community. His support and perspective are invaluable for TYPO3 and the OWA.
