(firmenpresse) - Holliday’s Helping Hands (HHH), a nonprofit that helps LA’s homeless population, is opening two new facilities — one with 36 beds in Los Angeles on June 16 and the other with 100 beds in Wilmington debuting July 1 — bringing the total number of its residential homes to 12. Founded by registered nurse practitioner and entrepreneur Miss Katina Holliday five years ago, HHH finds permanent housing for those living on the streets, then offers counseling, teaches them valuable life skills and trains them for jobs so they can be self-sufficient, productive members of society.
Currently, there are an estimated 75,312 people experiencing homelessness in LA County, down slightly (-0.27%) from 75,518 in 2023, marking the second year in a row of decline. The spiraling cost of housing, stagnant wages, declining mental health access and increased substance use are among the reasons for the epidemic.
“We are delighted to be opening these two new facilities that will bring hope to those in need and stability for our community,” says Miss Holliday. “Though homelessness is still an epidemic in LA County, we are seeing signs that the trend is reversing and that’s because all of us — city and county officials, nonprofits like HHH, volunteers, donors, etc. — are working together for a common purpose and that’s making sure every resident has a roof over his or her head. It’s gratifying to be part of the solution.”
Much of Holliday's Helping Hands’ success can be attributed to assisting clients develop “roadmaps” for the future — detailed, comprehensive plans that help them hone their lifestyle skills, plan home budgets, prepare for job interviews and become good neighbors and citizens. The nonprofit’s Shine Ambassador Program trains and prepares them for jobs in various fields including food service, landscape maintenance, screen printing and customer service.
