Two specialists, one system
How OEMs and suppliers benefit from the Trotec-ATN partnership

(PresseBox) - The demands placed on modern production lines in the automotive industry are constantly increasing: more variants, shorter cycle times and greater traceability. Trotec Laser's collaboration with ATN Hölzel provides a solution to these challenges in the form of an integrated VIN marking system that combines precision, automation and digitalisation.
Technological integration without friction
Combining Trotec's laser-based VIN marking technology with ATN's automation expertise enables the provision of a fully integrated solution for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. The Trotec SpeedMarker VIN marker can be integrated directly into the production line, including robot handling, a safety concept (e.g. SafetyCone) and a MES connection.
Technical highlights:
Marking depth: up to 0.5 mm on steel and aluminium, ,,,
Cycle time: <15 seconds per vehicle
Interfaces: OPC-UA, Profinet, MQTT
Safety: Laser class 1 thanks to SafetyCone
Standardization with flexibility
The solution has a modular design and can be adapted to different vehicle platforms and production layouts. OEMs benefit from uniform marking quality, regardless of location or model. At the same time, the open architecture enables rapid scaling - ideal for global platform strategies.
“Our customers receive a turnkey system that integrates seamlessly into existing processes - without compromising on quality or safety.”
- Torsten Hölzel, Managing Director ATN Hölzel GmbH
Traceability as a competitive advantage
VIN marking is required by law (ISO 3779) and is a key component of digital twins, predictive maintenance and automated recall processes. Thanks to its direct connection to ERP and MES systems, the marking becomes a data anchor in the digital supply chain.
In 2025, a European OEM integrated the combined solution from Trotec and ATN into its body shop line. Result:
less rework
traceability
reduction in set-up times
Global and local support
The cooperation is also strategically positioned geographically. ATN looks after North America and Asia, while
Trotec focuses on Europe and the DACH region. This means that customers worldwide benefit from a standardised system with regional support — a decisive advantage for global rollouts.
Customer statement: 'We already had to engrave the VIN before, but the laser solution from Trotec offers a system that combines precision, process reliability, low maintenance and digital integration in a single step, unlike mechanical engraving. For us, this is real progress towards networked production.'
