With the MCDE3000A-AI, Motec’s driver assistance specialists from Hadamar integrate artificial intelligence directly into the camera. The newly developed smart camera can perform person or object detection tasks without additional control units. Motec will showcase the MCDE3115A-AI at LogiMAT 2026 from March 10–12 in Stuttgart, Hall 10 / Booth 10C16.
Operators of industrial trucks such as forklifts or reach trucks must remain highly focused when maneuvering in narrow warehouse aisles or busy loading areas. Due to limited visibility and often complex surroundings, people or obstacles can easily be overlooked. Smart camera-based assistance systems help maintain situational awareness and prevent accidents. High-performance person detection cameras like Motec’s MCDE3115A-AI feature powerful processors that run AI algorithms directly on the camera. Additional video controllers and complex wiring are no longer required. The cameras simply connect to compatible displays and are ready for use after calibration.
The innovative MCDE3115A-AI is the next generation of Motec’s proven MCDE3000. Core performance specifications remain unchanged: the digital camera offers a horizontal field of view of 115° and transmits Full HD video at 30 frames per second via an IEEE 802.3 (LAN) interface. It is designed for operating temperatures from -40…+85 °C and meets protection standards up to IP69K for the most demanding environments. New features include the integrated i.MX 8M Plus – Arm® Cortex®-A53 processor, as well as an upcoming variant with Single Pair Ethernet (BroadR-Reach) interface and optional infrared and white-light illumination.
The integrated intelligence enables complex detection tasks to be processed directly on the camera, eliminating the need for additional video control units or smart displays. The processor is powerful enough to handle Motec’s proprietary machine learning algorithms for person and object detection. Customers with the necessary expertise can also deploy their own software solutions and algorithms on the camera.
A key advantage of the fully digital MCDE3115A-AI for OEMs and operators is its update capability, ensuring long-term future readiness. Dr. Stefan Wirtz, Director R&D at Motec, explains:
“Like all digital components, our new smart cameras allow software updates. For AI functionalities based on trained neural networks, as in the case of the MCDE3115A-AI, this is particularly important—because the system never stops learning.”
Motec has been working for more than a decade on implementing AI algorithms in its proprietary camera, control, and display units. This involves using real-world images, such as warehouse scenarios, as well as abstract, computer-generated content. As a result, the system is highly flexible, consistent, and robust in detecting relevant image data.
Applications range from 360° surround view monitoring for large machines using multiple smart cameras to single-camera systems for compact equipment such as forklifts. The MCDE3115A-AI can also be combined with other Motec components featuring integrated AI support, such as the new 8” MDDE3084 Smart Display or the MVCD2000 Video Control Unit, to create even more powerful ADAS solutions.
