Contract Awarded to Provide Secure and Responsible Recycling of the City's IT Assets

(firmenpresse) - AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 10/06/11 -- Image Microsystems -- a leading provider of technology restoration, reverse logistics, e-waste recycling, and recycled products manufacturing -- today announced they have been awarded the IT and Computer Asset Recovery and Recycling contract by the City of Austin, Texas.

"We are thrilled to have been awarded this contract," stated Alex Abadi, PhD, CEO of Image Microsystems. "Since 1992, Image Microsystems has been leading the charge for safe and secure domestic e-waste recycling," added Abadi. "Receiving this contract from the City of Austin -- one of the greenest cities in the nation -- validates our efforts to eliminate domestic landfilling and overseas dumping of e-waste. Our R2 (Responsible Recycling) and ISO 14001:2004 certifications coupled with the development of a closed-loop, cradle-to-cradle manufacturing process, that actually creates new products manufactured from e-waste, are key components of that effort," concluded Abadi.

The first product released as a result of this proprietary process is patent pending MicroStrate™ sign substrate, made completely of recycled e-waste plastic. Image Microsystems combines "dirty" plastic found in spent printer cartridges, computers or other electronics and converts it into resilient, earth-friendly traffic and way-finding signage. "Dirty" plastic is considered valueless in the recycling supply chain and as a result frequently ends up in landfills or incinerated. In the future, The City of Austin may purchase signage made from MicroStrate™ material derived from their own end-of-life electronics. This could help them save money on a product as tough -- but not as theft-prone as aluminum -- while simultaneously contributing to carbon footprint and e-waste reduction.

Currently, most e-waste ends up in China or other developing countries where it is a large and problem. As the problem grows, more and more "fake" recyclers enter the picture. Ethical companies such as have searched for efficient methods of recycling and uses for e-waste. MicroStrate™ signage is a result of those efforts. No other reverse logistics provider has this type of technology currently in use. You can learn more about the MicroStrate™ manufacturing process .
