Help Encourage the Fight Against Identity Theft This October


(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 10/06/11 -- There's always a risk of becoming a victim of identity theft. But did you know that there are simple steps that you can take to minimize that risk? The nonprofit has teamed up with the and the to encourage the fight against identity theft by hosting the , October 16-22.

Although it's important to protect ourselves from identity theft at all times and at any age, a special emphasis of this year's campaign is placed on child identity theft protection. Why? A study provided by PYIW sponsor, , revealed that children are 51 times more likely to have their Social Security numbers stolen than adults. As an adult, we must now not only protect ourselves from identity theft, but guard our children, too. The first step is to arm ourselves with the education, resources and information made available through Protect Your Identity Week 2011.



Attend free identity theft education and protection events in communities across the country this month. You'll find workshops, cell phone recycling through , and paper shredding powered by , the document destruction company and PYIW sponsor.

Go online to learn simple protection tips, find resources and take a to determine your own personal risk of identity theft. All are available for your reference on the .
