Quotes:

"By downloading our "I support Canadian Entrepreneurs" badge, and displaying it as their social media profile picture during Small Business Week, Canadians now have an opportunity to express direct support for the entrepreneurs in their lives and communities," said Michel Bergeron, Vice President, Corporate Relations at BDC. "For every badge displayed, BDC will donate $1 to a special grant of up to $50,000. This grant will be distributed among the winners of BDC's 2012 Young Entrepreneur Awards."

"Small Business Week is an opportunity to reflect on the challenges Canadian entrepreneurs must face and how we can support them," said Jean-Rene Halde, BDC President and Chief Executive Officer. "Innovation is a hot issue in Canada, which is why we have chosen to place it at the centre of our discussions. By presenting inspiring success stories, we want to show that, in business, innovation does not depend on intuition, but on courageous strategic decisions made by ambitious entrepreneurs. Their success is crucial for Canada's economy and we will have to redouble our efforts to help them carry out their projects."

About Small Business Week

Small Business Week began in 1979 when BDC business centres in British Columbia's Lower Mainland pooled their resources to organize a series of business management training sessions. This first event and a follow-up event in 1980 were so successful that BDC officially launched Small Business Week across Canada in 1981. The initiative was quickly adopted by Canada's business community. Small Business Week is a BDC flagship event that celebrates entrepreneurship at the local, provincial and national levels. The 2011 edition of Small Business Week is sponsored by Cisco.
