Swinton Commercial Warns Van Drivers About London's Low Emissions Charge
(firmenpresse) - MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 10/16/11 -- Swinton Commercial is reminding van drivers based in and around London to ensure their vehicles meet the requirements of the new lower level emissions that is coming into force on 3rd January 2012.
Swinton Commercial, the UK's leading high street retailer of issued the warning as some vehicles may be able to fit an approved filter to the exhaust to reduce its emissions. However, this can take up to three months to be ordered, fitted, and certified so it is vital that van drivers act now to ensure they are within the lower level.
The Low Emissions Zone was set up in 2008 to encourage heavy polluting diesel vehicles that come into the capital to take measures to become cleaner. Those vehicles that cannot adhere to the new rules will be subject to a daily charge of GBP 500 per day.
Emissions are measured in Particulate Matter and the age and weight of a vehicle will indicate how much PM it produces. The current level for emissions is Euro III for PM but this is changing to Euro IV on 3rd January, which means vehicles that meet the requirements now might not meet the new lower requirements in January.
Diesel vehicles that weigh more than 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight and were registered as new before 1st October 2006 will not meet the new lower level emissions.
Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton Commercial said, "It is vital that van drivers act now to ensure their vehicles are ready to meet the new lower emissions in the New Year. The penalty charges are quite high probably to encourage van drivers to think more about their emissions and helping the environment."
