The Paragon Report Provides Equity Research on Regions Financial & Synovus Financial

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 10/17/11 -- While the financial sector has been on a persistent downturn this year due to the crisis in the European banking system and continued economic weakness in the United States, there have been some positive signs of stability for many Regional Banks. Banks in the industry that have been able to stay away from heavy real estate investment, and have minimal reliance on the capital market business have put up decent numbers in recent quarters. The Paragon Report examines investing opportunities in the Regional Banking Sector and provides equity research on Regions Financial Corporation (NYSE: RF) and Synovus Financial Corporation (NYSE: SNV). Although economists worried over the summer that the economic recovery was slowing, recent Federal Reserve data showed that business loans rose 2.4% in the third quarter from the second to just over $1 trillion. Meanwhile credit-card loans, which are down 3.6% from a year earlier as households continue to pay down debt, rose a very slight 0.7% from the second quarter.

In recent quarters, regional banks have begun to post improved credit quality. More thorough and cautious credit checks have led to fewer delinquent loans and greater financial stability. As such, Banks are setting aside less money to cover bad loans, and some are seeing loan losses recede.

Regional Banks could see greater loan growth on the heels of the Federal Reserve's "Operation Twist." In its statement, the Fed noted that the economy is growing slowly, unemployment is high and housing remains in a prolonged slump. The central bank said in a statement that operation twist was aimed at reducing the cost of borrowing for businesses and consumers, including the cost of mortgage loans. It hopes that the lower rates will encourage companies to build new factories and hire more workers, and consumers to start spending again on homes and cars and clothes and vacations.
