Jay believes that buying this stock represents a good bet on a very strong
management team and two very strong gold exploration properties in Newfoundland
and Idaho.
Jay is recommending this stock now because of its very low market cap and in
anticipation that its 2011 drilling program will result in a significant
increase in the company's gold resources in both Idaho and Newfoundland.
Marathon Gold began trading in December 2010, after it was spun out of Marathon
PGM Corp. Marathon PGM had accepted a takeover offer from Stillwater Mining for
approximately US$118 million, which did not take into account the value of the
Marathon Gold shares.
Of the Newfoundland properties spun off into Marathon Gold, the flagship
property is the Valentine Lake Gold Project, which is subject to a 50/50 joint
venture agreement with Mountain Lake Resources. The Valentine Lake Property has
several gold targets, but the one from which the current 285,000 ounce gold
resource has been outlined is the Leprechaun Gold deposit.
The current focus is mostly on building an open-pit resource on the Leprechaun
Deposit. With some very strong numbers being reported so far in the current
25,000 metre drill program, Jay is guessing there will be a significant increase
in gold resource numbers reported with the conclusion of this drill program.
In Idaho, the company holds a 50% interest with New Jersey Mining on the Golden
Chest Project. This is a past-producing mine located within Idaho's prolific
Coeur d'Alene Mining District. Recent localized mining by the joint venture
partner has produced 8,500 tons of ore grading 6.9 grams per ton gold, with
recoveries of over 94%.
Jay believes this Marathon is a good bet to generate sizeable profits for
investors who buy these shares at current levels. Jay cautions potential
investors that this is a high risk/high reward prospect and suggests you cap any
allocation in junior resource stocks to no more than 5% of your portfolio.
Marathon Gold currently trades at $1.36, and with 23 million shares outstanding,
the company is capitalized at less than $30 million. As at June 30, 2011, the
company had approximately $6 million in cash.
