Platform Allows Any Device to Become Remotely Addressable via the Internet

(firmenpresse) - ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/18/11 -- Nivis, LLC, a global leader in Smart Grid and Industrial Wireless networks, today announced that it successfully demonstrated its new Smart Objects networking platform at the IPSO Alliance press reception, which was held at the Santa Clara TechMart. The new platform instills virtually any object with IP-based communication abilities, enabling a broad range of new applications in industries such as Smart metering, Smart lighting, Industrial Automation, Building Automation, Environmental Monitoring, and Healthcare Monitoring.

The Nivis Smart Objects networking platform enables the Internet of Things concept championed by the IPSO Alliance. From Smart meters to Smart lighting and beyond, embedded systems are turning everyday things into Smart Objects capable of communication with the world around them. For Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) seeking to develop a Smart Object or Smart Object application, the learning curve for the networking component is an impediment to bringing a solution to market. Nivis reduces this learning curve with its Smart Objects networking platform, allowing OEMs to quickly incorporate the platform into their solution with reduced costs and faster time to market.

"We have had an excellent working relationship with Nivis and see them as an industry leader in wireless product design and integration", says Terry Utterback -- Vice President and Value Stream Leader-ROAM & DTL at Acuity Brands Lighting.

Highlights of the Nivis Smart Object Networking Platform include:

Enables effortless integration with global sensing and control platforms that utilize Representational State Transfer (REST) applications such as Pachube ()

Lowers infrastructure costs with up to 4,000 endpoints per edge router

Utilizes NIST-recommended IPSec security

Employs proven standards such as IPv6, RoLL/RPL, 6LoWPAN, 802.15.4e, 802.15.4g, SNMP, and more

Increases reliability of communications through path redundancy

Components of the Nivis Smart Object Platform include:

Communications Stack

Edge Router Hardware

Network Management Software

Software API libraries

RF Modules

Development Kit

The Nivis Smart Objects networking platform will be available in the first quarter of 2012. "From first-hand experience, I see growth in this industry paralleling what we witnessed in 90s with personal computers and Internet Security in the 2000s," said Doug Johns, CEO of Nivis. "With the introduction of the Nivis Smart Objects networking platform, we are well-positioned to enable the market."

The IPSO Alliance is the primary advocate for IP networked devices for use in energy, consumer, healthcare and industrial applications. The IPSO Alliance is a non-profit association of more than 50 members from leading technology, communications and energy companies. Their mission is to enable the foundation for a network that will allow any sensor-enabled physical object to communicate to another, just as individuals do over the Internet. Membership is open to any organization supporting an IP-based approach to connecting smart objects.
