Michael Klein: Short And Sweet

Michael Klein: Short And Sweet

ID: 793

Place: Norisring, Nuremberg
Dates: 27 - 29th June 2008
Track length: 2.3km
Results: 19th (race 1), 12th (race 2)

"Just 45 seconds left," was the radio message from team boss Jo Zeller. Sitting behind the wheel of his car, Michael could scarcely believe his ears. "Was that a mistake?" he replied, checking for confirmation. But the second race at the Norisring was called off after just 18 laps. A sequence of accidents, two stoppages and a long interruption before the restart set the tone for the Sunday event in the Formula 3 Euro Series By contrast with a lot of his fellow competitors, Michael managed to steer his vehicle around the Nuremberg street circuit undamaged. But because of the premature end to the race, he came away without scoring any points.

(firmenpresse) - Michael Klein talking about...

... the Norisring: "This was the first time I've raced at Nuremberg. And I have to say I enjoyed it. The circuit is superb, even though there isn't such a big variety of corners. The atmosphere and the whole aura of the place more than compensate for that."

... the first race: "Thirteenth on the grid wasn't all that bad a starting position. I was aiming to get up to around eighth so that I would be on pole for the second race. Things were going quite well at the start but then I braked a bit too late and went into a spin. That set me back a bit."

... the second race: "Unfortunately, the second race was rather too short: just 18 laps. Pity because my car was on good form. I was getting excellent speed out of it and I'm sure I could have moved a couple more places up the field if the race hadn't been stopped twice."

... the chaos in the second race: "When the mass pile-up took place, I was right in the thick of it at the first corner. Fortunately, I emerged unscathed."

... the lessons from the weekend: "The braking error in the first race was a shame because otherwise I would have been better placed on the grid for the second race. Who knows what might have happened then? But at least I'm taking away some valuable experience from the track. The next race in Zandvoort also represents an unfamiliar circuit for me so it will be important to get in as much driving as possible during the tests."
