Goldcrest Motorsports to Test HPEV Composite Heat Pipe Technology in Porsche Racing Vehicle

ID: 79331

(firmenpresse) - KENNESAW, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/24/11 -- HPEV, Inc. and Goldcrest Motorsports have agreed to test the cooling effectiveness of HPEV composite heat pipe technology in the brake system of a Porsche GT3 Cup car.

"It's a first," said Steve Cosgrove, a Goldcrest partner. "We've never added heat pipes to brakes, calipers and rotors before. If the heat pipes just extend the life of the brake pads, that alone will be a significant advantage."

HPEV's engineers expect the cooler operating temperatures will also lengthen component life and reduce heat-related failures throughout the entire brake system.

"A 24 hour race will provide a significant test," continued Cosgrove. "The heat build-up in the brakes reaches 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit. That's hot enough to burn a diamond."

Goldcrest is the second racing team to agree to test HPEV composite heat pipes in their brake systems in as many weeks.
