The new website, , leverages the open source Drupal content management system and web application framework to create a dynamic site featuring photos, videos and, of course, plenty of stories.
WITS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that engages children in the pleasure and power of reading and writing. Prior to Schipul's redesign and reorganization of the WITS website, the online experience was static and didn't reflect the organization's excitement and personality. The new upgraded website features a photo rotator that showcases the smiling faces of children and teachers, and pulls in the latest news, videos and blog posts to create a fresh experience every time someone visits.
"The Schipul team encouraged us to think about how we want our community to interact with WITS through the website, which is why we now utilize our students and teachers to deliver our messages through their images and words," said WITS Executive Director Robin Reagler. The WITS community is large and growing, serving 20,000 K-12 students and teachers, in 350 classrooms, in 75 schools throughout the Houston region this year alone. To connect and engage with that growing community, WITS uses a wide array of social media tools, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr, to connect with parents, students and teachers. The new WITS website integrates with these social media sites to make it easy for website visitors to access the information important to them.
