is ten days of family fun activities celebrating Edmonton's proud history of agriculture, cultural heritage and rodeo. Visitors of every age will enjoy getting into the country spirit and enjoying a wide range of events throughout the city.

Set to run November 4 to 13, this is 's (RCR) first year as a festival. "The passion is already there," says Mayor Stephen Mandel. "I think Edmontonians are immensely proud of our heritage and agricultural roots. Our vision is to engage the community in building River City Round Up into something even bigger and more exciting in future years."

The RCR Kick-Off Celebration launches at the Downtown Farmers' Market in City Hall. From there the party moves to Sir Winston Churchill Square with all day family fun activities including a welcoming caravan of covered wagons and outriders circling the square.

Storytelling, games, crafts, roving entertainers, and on site animals will delight the kids while the whole family will love ongoing main stage performances from notables such as Brett Kissel, two-time CCMA nominee, working dog competitions, square dancing, autographs from Miss Rodeo Canada - not to mention fireworks to end the evening.

One of the key events under the RCR umbrella is (CFR). The 2011 Canadian Finals Rodeo is set to bust out of the gates November 9 to 13 at Rexall Place.

" is the Canadian Championship of Rodeo," says Fahlman. "It's thrilling!" This is CFR's 35th anniversary and the event features the top cowboys and cowgirls competing for over $1 million in prize money.

The excitement and performances begin right from the opening ceremonies to the action-packed events like bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, ladies barrel racing, bull riding, and even specialty acts during intermissions. After performances guests are invited to mosey on back to the Buckle, the rodeo's party headquarters, for food, drink, and live music.

Always a fan favourite is the high profile and ever-exciting bull riding competition. It's definitely the most dangerous event in the rodeo as cowboys face a test of nerves with tough bulls. Fans can look forward to seeing champions such as Denton Edge, bull riding season leading money earner, Tanner Milan, steer wrestling top five season money earner, and many others.

"This year we're encouraging urban Albertans to find the 'west within,'" says Fahlman. So in addition to heart-pounding rodeo action, the CFR offers up a number of other entertainment options. Country music great will perform live on Thursday, November 10, and stock dog competitions and draft horse pulls are among other events that promise to entertain first timers. As well, with every CFR ticket sold, individuals can take in at EXPO Centre. This includes admission to the RAM Country Marketplace with over 250 booths featuring leather goods, saddles, apparel, home decor, food, art, and of course anything-and-everything western.
