Transmode increases flexibility with industry's first integration of
Tunable XFP pluggable optics
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Transport Network Strategies Barcelona, Spain and Stockholm, Sweden -17th November 2009 - Transmode, a leading provider of opticalnetworking solutions, today announced the availability of tunable XFPpluggable optics modules for both the TM-Series and TS-Series productfamilies enabling greater flexibility and lower spare part holdingcosts for customers. As the new 80-channel tunable DWDM 10G XFP modules have recentlybecome available from component suppliers, Transmode has rapidlyintegrated these into both the TM-Series and TS-Series productfamilies. These modules allow greater flexibility in planning, ordering, deployment and later network reconfiguration due to theability of the modules to tune to any of the 80 DWDM wavelengthssupported by the TM-Series or the 24 DWDM wavelengths supported bythe TS-Series.Additionally, these modules allow operators that hold inventory orspare part pools to keep a smaller number of modules as they nolonger need to hold a large number of wavelength specific plug-inmodules, therefore reducing cost.Mohamad Ferej, Transmode's Vice President R&D commented, "This rapidintegration of tunable XFP technology into our portfolio reflects thegood relationships that we have built up with our supplier partnersover the years and Transmode's ability to respond quickly once acomponent technology reaches the right level of maturity andquality.""Transmode has been a long term supporter of pluggable optics andpushed hard for the initial Multi Source Agreement (MSA) standards toremove the need for wavelength specific versions of each type of linecard. Our strong relationship with our suppliers has given us a headstart over the competition in this important area of pluggable opticsintegration."Transmode's portfolio is an industry leader in terms of flexibilityand pluggable optics integration with many industry firsts, including2.5G CWDM/DWDM SFPs, 4G CWDM/DWDM SFPs, 10G CWDM/DWDM XFPs andrecently 8G Fibre Channel XFPs for both CWDM and DWDM.About TransmodeTransmode is a leading provider of optical networking solutions fortransport of data, voice and video traffic, based on CWDM and DWDMtechnology (Coarse/Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing).Transmode's unique Intelligent WDM (iWDM(TM)) approach has lead towidespread deployment of over 10000 systems in a customer baseconsisting of more than 250 fixed and mobile network operators, service providers, large enterprises and public institutions acrossEurope, the Americas and Asia.Transmode's comprehensive product portfolio and strong globalorganization enable our customers to grow the capacity and to improveservice level of their regional, metro and metro access networks, ona cost-efficient basis without compromising on functionality. For additional information about Transmode, please visitwww.transmode.comFor more information please contact:Ola ElmelandVice President Marketing &CommunicationsTransmode Systems ABTelephone: +46 8 506 882 71Email: ola.elmeland(at)transmode.comThis announcement was originally distributed by Hugin.
