Message from the Minister of Veterans Affairs

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/11/11 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, issued the following message on the occasion of Remembrance Day 2011:
"Today, Canadians from across this great country are proudly gathering to remember and honour the service and sacrifices of our Veterans, our Canadian Forces members and their families.
Today, we honour the brave men and women who still serve our country today with pride and conviction. We pray for their safe return.
We also thank those remarkable individuals, such as Sergeant Bjarne Nielsen, who were injured in the line of duty while serving our country. To them, they were simply doing their jobs. To us, they are our nation's truest heroes and we are forever grateful.
On Remembrance Day, we are thankful for those Veterans who served our country during the First and Second World War, the Korean War, and other Peacekeeping missions around the world. Our Veterans have accomplished extraordinary things in order to protect our values of liberty, democracy and the rule of law. They acted without hesitation or reservation.
On this important day, we come together as Canadians to pay tribute to those men and women who sacrificed so much so that we can live in a better world.
As we mark Remembrance Day on this eleventh day of the eleventh month of the eleventh year, it is my fervent wish that all Canadians will find their own deeply personal ways to pause and remember. We truly live in a blessed nation made so by our nation's truest heroes.
Lest we forget."
