Metso to deliver new environmental waste gasification technology to
Lahti Energia Oy in Finland
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Metso Corporation's press release on November 26, 2009 at 12:00 a.m.local time Metso will supply a waste gasification plant to Lahti Energia Oy inLahti, Finland. Metso's supply includes waste gasification process,gas boiler and flue gas cleaning system with auxiliary systems andautomation system for the whole power plant. The gasification plantrepresents new type of technology that enables Lahti Energia toconvert recycled waste into energy at high efficiency and reduce useof fossil fuels in the city of Lahti significantly. There will be twogasification lines in the new power plant, and together they willproduce 50 MW electricity and 90 MW district heat. The commercialoperation of the plant is scheduled for 2012. The order will beincluded in the Energy and Environmental Technology's Q4 ordersreceived. The value of the Metso order is not disclosed but LahtiEnergia's total investment is EUR 157 million.In a gasifier, waste is turned into combustable gas, which is cooledand cleaned and then combusted in a high-efficiency gas boiler toproduce steam for a steam turbine. Waste gasification is a new,innovative technology to utilize recycled waste in energy productionin an efficient and environmentally friendly way."Our power plant project is internationally important.
