Russell 3000 Index Sectors & Sub-Sectors: Materials & Processing Sector Outperformed the Financial Services Sector Month-to-Date Through November 21
(firmenpresse) - SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/22/11 -- The Materials & Processing sector of the U.S. broad-market Russell 3000 Index lost (-4.8%) for November month-to-date through November 21, with the Building Materials sub-sector losing (-2.3%) for the same period. Both these sectors reflected negative monthly returns for the months of May - September; however, for the month of October, Materials & Processing and Building Materials posted significant returns of (17.6%) and (22.2%), respectively.
In contrast, the Financial Services sector of the Russell 3000 Index and its sub-sector, Real Estate, have reflected losses of (-8.2%) and (-11.4%) respectively, for the month-to-date through November 21. The Financial Services sector and Real Estate sub-sector reflected the largest monthly gains for the year in the month of October with returns in excess of 13%.
Overall, the Russell 3000 Index reflected a loss of (-4.7%) month-to-date through November 21, coming off the (11.5%) gain for the month of October. The Index posted positive monthly returns for the first four months of 2011 before slipping into a five month slump of negative monthly returns, with its steepest decline in the month of September (-7.8%).
