(firmenpresse) - PHILADELPHIA, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/23/11 -- The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is proud to continue to present a wintertime tradition in Philadelphia, the 18th anniversary season of the Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing. The Blue Cross RiverRink will salute our public safety heroes, police officers and firefighters, during two special events this upcoming season. The first event called a Salute to First Responders will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and the Blue Cross RiverRink Salute to the Men and Women in Blue will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Featuring an outdoor Olympic size rink overlooking the Delaware River and an indoor heated facility with a snack bar, game room and more, the Blue Cross RiverRink has created these two special events as an honorable and informational celebration fit for all ages with free activities for the entire family.

The Blue Cross RiverRink is dedicating its first two ice skating sessions of each of these special events to the women and men of the Fire Departments and the Police Departments in the Greater Philadelphia region.

On December 3, starting at 1:00 p.m., Deputy Fire Commissioner Ernest Hargett and Gentry, the official Philadelphia Fire Department mascot will be on hand to welcome skaters and fellow first responders to this special event. Fire Boats will create various water displays in the Delaware River next to the Blue Cross RiverRink while the Fire Safety trailer will be stationed next to the rink to simulate a home fire for lessons about fire extinguishing and evacuation.

Kids will have the chance to climb aboard a real ladder fire truck and check out safety videos inside the heated pavilion next to the Rink. They will also have a chance to have their photos taken with Firefighters and real fire safety gear. Representatives from the Philadelphia Fire Departments will be on hand with displays and fire safety literature while kids participate in a make and take craft of a door knob hanger with safety messages about fire safety.





The crews from 933 WMMR and from the CW Philly will be on site with games and prizes also from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m.

Then Saturday, January 7, 2012 will be the salute to the Men and Women in Blue. Kids will have the chance to explore a real police vehicle, a mobile crime lab, and check out safety videos inside the heated pavilion next to the Rink. They will also have a chance to have their photos taken with Police Officers or in real Police gear or make a blue door knob hanger with safety messages.

Pierre Robert from 933 WMMR along with the MMArmy will be on hand for this special event saluting police officers.

Regular skating session hours at the Blue Cross RiverRink are Monday to Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Friday hours are: 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. Saturday hours are: 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. Sunday hours are: 12:30 - 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Special Holiday Hours and other extended sessions are outlined at . Skating admission is extremely affordable at $8 and $9 for Friday and Saturday night sessions at 8:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and skate rental is available for $3. Convenient parking is also available on site for only $10.
