Central government payments gave a surplus in November

ID: 9329

(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Swedish central government payments resulted in a surplus of SEK 6.7billion in November. The Debt Office's forecast was SEK 13.0 billion. The difference is explained by displacements of payments betweenmonths within the Debt Office's net lending and will thus not affectthe annual outcome. The Debt Office's net lending was SEK 4 billion higher thancalculated. This is explained by the fact that repo transactions*made by government agencies were SEK 9 billion higher than expected. At the same time, loans that the Debt Office has taken on behalf ofthe Riksbank decreased the Debt Office's net lending. These loanswere refinanced already in October, but did not have the same paymentdate as the new loans. Since the payments were made in differentmonths the difference in November corresponds to the one in October.Tax payments were SEK 3 billion lower than calculated. Disbursementsfrom authorities were SEK 1 billion lower than forecast.Interest payments on central government debt were SEK 0.1 billionhigher than calculated. For the twelve-month period up to the end of November, centralgovernment payments resulted in a deficit of SEK 191 billion. Centralgovernment debt amounted to SEK 1,115 billion at the end of November. The outcome for December and the yearly outcome for 2009 will bepublished at 9.30 am on 12 January 2010.Further information can be obtained from:Sofia Olsson, phone +46 8 613 47 30* Repo transactions by government agencies mean that they sellgovernment securities with a repurchase agreement. The payment of therepos must be deposited in an account at the Debt Office. If thetotal volume of outstanding repos change during the month compared tothe previous turn of the month it will affect the outcome of theborrowing requirement. We make forecasts of the repo transactions onthe basis of the information we receive from the government agencies. However, the forecast are very uncertain since the governmentagencies may alter their plans on a short notice.http://hugin.info/133745/R/1359301/331279.pdfThis announcement was originally distributed by Hugin.
