Second Annual LimmudBoston Conference -- A Smashing Success
(firmenpresse) - WABAN, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/08/11 -- More than 1,000 members of the Greater Boston Jewish community flocked to Congregation Mishkan Tefila in Chestnut Hill, MA, on Sunday, December 4, where they celebrated the joys of lifelong Jewish learning at , the second annual Limmud for the New England area. Around the world, Limmud (Hebrew for "study") conferences encourage Jewish lifelong learning for all.
Volunticipants (volunteers and participants) took part in 120 sessions on everything from art to (Laughter) Yoga, Bar Mitzvah to Torah, including discussions on "Jewish Men's Work" and "Stories of Bat Mitzvah around the World," as presented by locally-based and visiting speakers.
Because LimmudBoston enjoys partnerships with over 80 "Friends of LimmudBoston," over 300 Jewish educators attended through the annual teacher training day. Another successful pairing came in the afternoon, when Joshua Jacobson, conducted over 300 beautiful voices for the annual Open Sing of 'Judas Maccabeus.'
The mid-day Café Limmud and Grand Finale Evening Concerts featured incredible talent with New England roots, like and Dan Freelander and Jeff Klepper. Emcee , from Chicago's Second City Comedy Troupe, kept the music flowing and also spent time with the children and teens in the Camp Limmud programs. Freeman presented on "Jewish Optimism," his fearlessly optimistic take on Judaism, which he chose as an adult.
LimmudBoston co-chairs, Terri Swartz Russell, of Lexington, and Steffi Aronson Karp, of Waban, were thrilled with the numbers of participants -- and the varied and diverse communities they represent. Even more, they welcome the numbers of LimmudBoston attendees who stepped forward to make future LimmudBoston conferences shine.
Seeking to repay those who offer the time and energy that make LimmudBoston possible, the leadership of LimmudBoston has created the "," offering leadership skills presentations for past and future LimmudBoston volunteers. Speech coach Lauren Garlick will talk at the first Leadership Development event, on "The Challenges of Public Speaking," at the , on Sunday, January 22 at 2PM.
