(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/14/11 -- , the development shop behind , a successful augmented reality translation application for the iPhone, today announced that it has added French to English and English to French language translation to its offering. Unlike other translation apps, Word Lens uses the built-in phone camera to identify text in one language and translate it into another language. Up until now, English and Spanish translations were the only languages supported by Word Lens.

By using augmented reality as its underlying functionality, Word Lens delivers an easier and innovative way to manage translation of the world around you in real-time. You simply launch the application and direct the camera to a sign or menu for example that might be in another language. Word Lens intuitively identifies just the text in the image removing all background images that aren't text, translates the text to your desired language, and displays the translated words on your screen instantly as if you were reading it in your native language. In addition, you do not need an Internet connection or to press the capture button on your iPhone to take a still shot before submitting for translation.

Creator Otavio Good sees the application as a great travel companion. He says of Word Lens, "The world around us is very visual, particularly when traveling. There are signs, menus, historical plaques, and myriad of stores and venues that can leave travelers confused. Word Lens helps translate the world around you simply by overlaying a word-for-word translation of the things you're seeing and reading.

"Augmented reality has been a neat feature since its introduction. However, Word Lens is a great example of the business opportunities that exist by implementing augmented reality to solve practical problems," added Good.

Word Lens' language packs now with French, Spanish and English translation costs $9.99 to download. You can download from the iTunes store at .
