VooDoo BBQ's Patrick Kerr: 'I Can't Wait to Get Started'
(firmenpresse) - GREENVILLE, SC -- (Marketwire) -- 12/15/11 -- A little more than a month from now, lovers of competition-style barbecue and New Orleans-style cuisine will flock to a restaurant that offers both -- and, for the first time, outside Louisiana.
New Orleans' VooDoo BBQ & Grill, a successful chain of franchise restaurants that's garnered fans throughout south Louisiana since 2002, is about to open its first location in another state. Baton Rouge native Patrick Kerr this year reached a deal with VooDoo BBQ to open eight locations in the Carolinas over the next five years.
Kerr aims to open the first of two planned Greenville, S.C., locations on Jan. 9. His team plans to open other locations in the South Carolina cities of Anderson, Spartanburg, Charleston, Rock Hill and Columbia and in Asheville, N.C.
"Everything's really starting to come together," Kerr said. "We're starting to put our team together, and we're getting very anxious. I can't wait to get started."
It's a big move for both Kerr and VooDoo, which embarked on an aggressive multi-state and multi-unit expansion in 2011. The Carolinas agreement in May was the first stage, and the company quickly followed it with development deals in Texas and Florida. VooDoo will have 53 locations when all are open.
"We're as excited as Patrick for him and his team to get going and bring some Louisiana flair and flavor to the Carolinas," said VooDoo BBQ & Grill CEO Tony Avila. "This is an important location for our franchise system because it will be the first outside Louisiana and in the traditional 'barbecue belt.'"
Founded by a group of college buddies, VooDoo opened its first location in New Orleans on Mardi Gras weekend 2002. Over the next nine years, it slowly built its brand and franchise base in south Louisiana, reaching 12 locations by mid-2011, before embarking on an aggressive expansion; the company has agreements with franchisees to boost its number of locations to 53 in six states.
