(firmenpresse) - SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- (Marketwire) -- 12/15/11 -- Utah Representative Stephen Sandstrom, a U.S. Congressional candidate in Utah's new 4th District race, commented today on Democrat incumbent Jim Matheson's recent decision to jump into the 4th District race.

Sandstrom acknowledges the challenges of running against Matheson and also recognizes the political obstacles Matheson will have running for his 6th term. "We welcome Jim Matheson into the race. This election cycle is going to be a referendum on Obama and the direction in which this country is headed. At the end of the day, I believe my legislative record will speak for itself when it comes to representing Utah's values."

Sandstrom added, "Our campaign has worked hard to prepare for the various scenarios that could impact this race including Matheson jumping into the 4th district."

Sandstrom recognizes his issues, background and experience will become clear campaign differentiators in 2012. "I've dealt with many issues ranging from education to public lands. I feel stronger than ever, now that the incumbent has entered the race, that my education, military service, business background and other life experiences have put me in a position to defeat Jim Matheson. I am looking forward to debating Jim and continuing a spirited discussion on issues and leadership during the campaign."

Utah Representative Stephen Sandstrom favors small government, strong education, and states' rights. A resident of Utah for over 40 years, he graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Political Science. He believes in promoting growth through lower taxes, which allow Americans to retain their hard-earned income. Compassionate and approachable, Sandstrom is a listener and trusted problem solver. He is well-known in the community as an honest, classic Reagan conservative. He has been married for 21 years to Jennie and has four children.

Sandstrom believes his life experience as a former United States Marine, small business owner, local and state public servant, and a steadfast family man uniquely qualify him to represent the constituents of the 4th District. For more campaign background information, go to
