Townhall and HotAir Announce Results of National GOP Primary

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 12/19/11 -- Conservatives have spoken. Former House Speaker has won the and National GOP Primary. Voting ended Thursday, Dec. 15 and was declared the winner after over votes were cast.

In an extremely volatile primary season, over 250,000 votes from conservative Republicans were cast for the nominee they want to see on the ballot in 2012. Rick Perry voters picked Michele Bachmann as their top second choice.

Overall, Michele Bachmann took in 25.4 percent of second choice votes. Newt Gingrich captured 20.6 percent of second choice votes. Mitt Romney followed with 20.4 percent, Rick Perry received 18.2 percent, and Ron Paul got 15.4 percent.





In order to cast a vote in the , voters had to be a registered reader on Townhall.com or HotAir.com, or have voted in the 2011 . They were also given the opportunity to register at . Actively campaigning presidential candidates who were polling at five percent or better in the Townhall.com National Average on December 11, 2011 were included in the primary. When voting began on December 13, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and Utah Governor Jon Huntsman were polling nationally at three percent and two percent, respectively.
