Orange County Community Foundation Grants Nearly $30 Million in 2011, up 30% Over 2010; Presents Excellence in Philanthropy Awards to Wing Lam, Disneyland Resort and Dr. Gwyn Parry
(firmenpresse) - NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/19/11 -- The Orange County Community Foundation () awarded for the 2011 fiscal year -- an increase of 30 percent over the previous year. This includes from OCCF's initiative to local nonprofit organizations providing vulnerable families and children with food, shelter, access to mental health and medical care, and services for individuals with special needs.
Since 1989, OCCF has delivered in grants and scholarships to address a wide variety of needs in Orange County, across the nation and around the world -- with granted over the past decade alone.
These results were announced recently at the foundation's 2011 annual meeting at The Island Hotel to a sold-out crowd of 450 guests including OCCF donors, volunteers, local philanthropists, and business and community leaders. OCCF President Shelley Hoss served as host of the event and was joined by Board Chairman Timothy J. Kay, a partner at Snell & Wilmer L.L.P.
The program included 2011 highlights and the 8th Annual Excellence in Philanthropy Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations who bring remarkable philanthropic impact to our community. This year's awards were presented to three honorees:
, co-founder of Wahoo's Fish Taco (), was honored for his work as an advocate for children and environmental causes in Orange County. He is a board member of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Surfrider Foundation and Mustard Seed Ranch.
() was honored for its impactful philanthropic leadership in the community and the VoluntEARS Community Fund, which awards grants of up to $5,000 each year to local nonprofits such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Working Wardrobes and the Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim. This year the VoluntEARS fund reached in cumulative employee contributions and in total grants awarded. Disneyland Resort President George Kalogridis was on hand to accept the award.
was honored for his work as director of community medicine at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian (). He oversees Hoag's community outreach program, which provides vital health care and education services to some of the most vulnerable children and families in Orange County.
