The City of Oslo rings with EDB ErgoGroup
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
(Oslo, 7 December 2010) The City of Oslo has entered into an agreement with EDB
ErgoGroup for fixed and mobile telephone traffic. The agreement runs for two
years, and represents total contract value of approximately NOK 75 million.
"The City of Oslo is among the largest Norwegian purchasers of this type of
service, and for EDB ErgoGroup this agreement represents an important foundation
for the development of new mobile services for all our customers", comments
Terje Mjøs, CEO of EDB ErgoGroup.
The City of Oslo currently has around 15,000 mobile telephone subscriptions, and
the number of mobile users is expected to grow in pace with the introduction of
new mobile services as part of its services production. For example, the City
expects to make greater use of mobile units such as PDAs to facilitate its work
in the social services and social care sector.
"Mobility offers great opportunities to improve local authority services, while
at the same time making daily tasks easier for employees. However, increased use
of mobile telephony also leads to higher costs, and with this agreement in place
the City of Oslo is well prepared for this trend by ensuring that it has a cost-
effective contract that also delivers a high level of transparency", says Terje
Mjøs.
As part of this agreement, the City of Oslo intends to successively migrate from
fixed-line telephony on its old local switchboards onto IP telephony. EDB
ErgoGroup is already responsible for the operation of the City of Oslo's central
switchboard, known as 02180. The new agreement also includes the development of
a new solution for mobile users to notify when they cannot take calls, which
will make it easier for the central switchboard to see who is available to take
a call and which numbers are engaged.
Telenor is a subcontractor for this contract. The contract runs for two years,
with an option to extend by a further one year, plus one year thereafter.
