(firmenpresse) - The conference will take place for the 8th time in Halle (Saale) in 2019. It aims to present and bolster Central Germany as a region of biobased research and industry. The conference is one of the absolute highlights of the bioeconomy sector in Germany, with over 150 participants from more than 15 nations. For the second year in a row, the historical premises of the Leopoldina, the German National Academy of Sciences, will serve as the venue for this unique conference.
Professor Armin Willingmann, Minister of Economics, Science and Digitization in Saxony-Anhalt and Professor Jörg Hacker, President of the Leopoldina, will open the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference 2019. Following the opening speech, Andrea Noske will represent the position of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Research and Education as head of the Department for Bioeconomy at the BMBF.

Partner region of South America

Another highlight of the forthcoming conference will be a first-time look at developments in countries outside Europe. The bioeconomy is providing an economic upswing on the South American continent. Brazil in particular benefits from abundant resources of plant biomass and is also an important partner for Germany in the areas of education and research. This is not the only reason why South America is the partner region of the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference 2019, which is expected to bring together numerous renowned business and science representatives from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Colombia.

Professor Ester Dal Poz will give the keynote speech of SESSION 1 "Social-economic issues of the bioeconomy", which will address social, political and economic aspects of the bioeconomy. As a professor at the University of Campinas in São Paulo, Brazil, her research activities focus on biotechnology and innovation. She also serves on the Innovation Management Board of the Unicamp's Innovation Agency (INOVA). She has extensive experience as a consultant in the areas of technology-based business organization and fundraising for innovation projects of companies and public institutions.

In Session 1, Dr. Corinna Hempel (Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute) and Ms. Christine Höfling (BioKompass research project, Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt) will also present key highlights of their work.
