A unique conference on the bioeconomy in Central Germany with numerous internationally renowned experts in 2019
Under the banner "Bio meets Economy - Science meets Industry", the ScienceCampus Halle and the BioEconomy Cluster Central Germany invite you to the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference which will be held on May 13 -14, 2019 at the Leopoldina, the National Academy of Sciences in Halle (Saale). Focus will be on sharing the latest research results, innovations and current developments on the markets, including exchanging experience with this year's partner region South America. Registration for a limited number of tickets is now open.
South America is the partner region of the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference 2019(firmenpresse) - The conference will take place for the 8th time in Halle (Saale) in 2019. It aims to present and bolster Central Germany as a region of biobased research and industry. The conference is one of the absolute highlights of the bioeconomy sector in Germany, with over 150 participants from more than 15 nations. For the second year in a row, the historical premises of the Leopoldina, the German National Academy of Sciences, will serve as the venue for this unique conference.
Professor Armin Willingmann, Minister of Economics, Science and Digitization in Saxony-Anhalt and Professor Jörg Hacker, President of the Leopoldina, will open the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference 2019. Following the opening speech, Andrea Noske will represent the position of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Research and Education as head of the Department for Bioeconomy at the BMBF.
Partner region of South America
Another highlight of the forthcoming conference will be a first-time look at developments in countries outside Europe. The bioeconomy is providing an economic upswing on the South American continent. Brazil in particular benefits from abundant resources of plant biomass and is also an important partner for Germany in the areas of education and research. This is not the only reason why South America is the partner region of the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference 2019, which is expected to bring together numerous renowned business and science representatives from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Colombia.
Professor Ester Dal Poz will give the keynote speech of SESSION 1 "Social-economic issues of the bioeconomy", which will address social, political and economic aspects of the bioeconomy. As a professor at the University of Campinas in São Paulo, Brazil, her research activities focus on biotechnology and innovation. She also serves on the Innovation Management Board of the Unicamp's Innovation Agency (INOVA). She has extensive experience as a consultant in the areas of technology-based business organization and fundraising for innovation projects of companies and public institutions.
In Session 1, Dr. Corinna Hempel (Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute) and Ms. Christine Höfling (BioKompass research project, Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt) will also present key highlights of their work.

Due to high demand, early registration is recommended as the number of participants is limited.

Further key topics will be discussed in SESSIONS 2-5 during the two-day event. Program items include challenges and opportunities within the sugar-based bioeconomy, increasing productivity in the cultivation of biomass, as well as successful biotechnology and bioeconomy products that are already on the market or are well on their way to becoming so.
The International Bioeconomy Conference, which was initiated by the ScienceCampus Halle in 2012, is one of the most important bioeconomy events in Germany. Participants of the conference will gain comprehensive insight into the possibilities and potentials of the bioeconomy and, in particular, the region of Central Germany. An international focus is set by the partner region South America. The 8th International Bioeconomy Conference will be held on May 13 – 14, 2019 at the Leopoldina in Halle (Saale).

The ScienceCampus Halle – plant-based bioeconomy and the Cluster BioEconomy are two associations whose stakeholders are working on the basics of the bio-based economy. Both not only are situated in the German Federal State Saxony-Anhalt, but are direct neighbors on the WeinbergCampus of the city of Halle / Saale. The Leibniz-ScienceCampus mainly is working on a bio-economic basic research for agriculture. In the Cluster BioEconomy industrial partners and research institutions are working on bio-based value chains based on renewable raw materials.
The ScienceCampus Halle and the BioEconomy Cluster Central Germany are organizing together the 8th International Bioeconomy Conference in Halle from May 13 – 14, 2019. The motto of the conference will be “Bio meets Economy – Science meets Industry”.
