Summit Wireless Transmit and Receive Modules Now Available in Support of the Newly Formed Wireless Speaker and Audio (WiSA(TM)) Association; Demonstrations at International CES 2012

ID: 100513

(firmenpresse) - PORTLAND, OR -- (Marketwire) -- 01/03/12 -- , a leader in wireless audio home theater technologies, announces new transmit and receive modules in support of the Association for sale to consumer brands developing wireless speakers and home theater electronics. Based on , an integrated circuit audio solution, that sets the standard for home theater digital audio fidelity, ease of set-up and interference-free surround sound. The latest integrated circuit technology modules are production ready and pre-certified for U-NII band operation by country, thus accelerating a company's time to market. The availability of these modules allows speaker and CE companies to develop WiSA compatible products today and cut their engineering cycle in half by purchasing ready-made RF modules for multichannel wireless home theater audio solutions. Summit Wireless technology demonstrations will be available in the Venetian Towers, suite 30-217, at the International CES, Las Vegas, NV, January 10-13, 2012.

The transmit module which can be integrated into an HDTV, Blu-ray player, gaming console, A/V receiver, or set top box is based on the new lower cost SWM908 chip, which integrates USB 2.0 device controller and analog front-end circuitry and is capable of transporting up to 8-channels of uncompressed 24-bit quality audio interference free. The transmit module comes in two forms, one with integrated patch antennas for plastic and medium-density fiberboard (MDF) enclosures or UFL connectors for metal enclosures with external antennas. The receiver module for speakers is based on the recently introduced SWS996 chip which integrates digital crossover filters (supporting up to 3 filter paths) to eliminate the need for passive crossovers. Both module designs represent a greater than 50% reduction in size over the prior generations, while retaining the robust high definition link performance with built-in antenna diversity, allowing placement of a speaker virtually anywhere in a room without signal loss or interruption.

"The WiSA Association is key to industry growth and adoption of high quality multichannel wireless speaker and home theater systems and Summit Wireless technology represents the performance that audio connoisseurs expect at a price that is tailored to the mass market," said Tony Parker, vice president of marketing, Summit Semiconductor. "Consumers can rest assured that a WiSA compliant home theater system or product will interoperate with other WiSA components."
