Summit Semiconductor and Momentum Data Systems Jointly Develop Soundbar Reference Design, Technology Demonstrations at CES 2012

(firmenpresse) - PORTLAND, OR -- (Marketwire) -- 01/04/12 -- , a leader in wireless audio home theater technologies, in partnership with (MDS), a leading supplier of DSP hardware, software and custom engineering solutions, have developed a soundbar reference design, planned to be in compliance with the test specification for licensing to consumer electronics and speaker brands. The design, based on ™ technology, supports popular DSP chip architectures and offers a range of functional capabilities which allows designers the ability to choose between circuit board costs, features, performance, and the amount of engineering work to invest to create a complete system. Technology demonstrations will be taking place in conjunction with the International CES, January 10-13, 2012, Venetian towers, suite 30-217.

The design solves the problem of developing and delivering a soundbar that meets consumer requirements for high quality, multichannel surround sound without the typically long engineering cycle required to bring a product to market. Summit Wireless technology delivers unprecedented flexibility to speaker manufacturers, consumer electronics brands and consumers. A basic soundbar with a wireless sub-woofer can be sold as an entry level system and later be easily expanded by the consumer to a full 7.4 configuration simply by adding additional surround speakers. Systems that are WiSA compliant are certified to be interoperable with WiSA-compliant speakers, regardless of speaker brand or price point.

System designs that take full advantage of Summit Wireless' advanced features can significantly reduce home theater audio setup time from hours, to 30 minutes or less, out of the box. Summit's ™ technology identifies the speaker location and assigns the correct audio channel on system power up and also looks for new speakers that may have been added. technology time aligns the audio and adjusts the sound pressure level (SPL) to the listener's position with the push of a button on the remote.

"Summit Wireless technology is the only wireless audio solution on the market that can deliver the breadth of performance at the high end of the home theater market with uncompressed 24-bit audio up to 8 channels, while also scaling nicely to entry level system price points for consumers who are more cost conscious, but still appreciate the high fidelity audio and ease of set up value proposition," said Tony Parker, vice president of marketing, Summit Semiconductor. "Summit will make available the basic soundbar schematics free of charge to qualified customers, while a complete design package and services will be offered by MDS."

"We are excited to work with Summit Semiconductor to deliver the industry's first wireless multichannel soundbar reference design that is scalable up to a 7.4 system. Speaker manufacturers will be able to significantly accelerate time to market," said Brewster LaMacchia, vice president of marketing with Momentum Data Systems. "The design package builds on MDS' 20 years of experience in DSP and consumer audio and consists of a reference board, schematics, layout, and firmware for the embedded processors and source code for the host processor."
