4th District Congressional Candidate UT Rep. Stephen Sandstrom Questions Strategy for Leaner Military
(firmenpresse) - SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- (Marketwire) -- 01/05/12 -- Utah Rep. Stephen Sandstrom stated today his concern with President Obama's Pentagon strategy. As a former Marine and current U.S. Congressional candidate in Utah's new 4th district, Sandstrom opposes the newly announced policy calling for a leaner military, including billions of dollars of cuts in military defense over the next 10 years. A key platform issue for Sandstrom, military cuts made today will gut the U.S.'s ability to defend and protect Americans.
"Given today's economy, government spending cuts are a necessity," explained Sandstrom.
"However, President Obama's 'strategy for a leaner military' is offensive to me as a former Marine. I agree with Congressman Buck McKeon that this strategy will only ensure American decline in exchange for more failed entitlement programs. There was certainly no assurance today from President Obama that these defense cuts will be matched by similar spending cuts across other bloated agencies."
Sandstrom continued, "I certainly hope President Obama along with Congressional leadership are planning to take the same cost-cutting measures across agencies such as the Department of Health & Human Services, Energy Department and EPA to name a few. I am alarmed for our global allies such as Israel and United Kingdom, who have truly received the short end of the stick and must be scratching their heads. It appears the Obama administration is still hell-bent on America taking a back seat as leader of the free world."
