Legal-expenses insurer DMB Rechtsschutz trusts in German Cloud
Pironet NDH provides single-source datacenter operation and corporate network
(PresseBox) - 01.2012 - Following the reorganization and modernization of its IT, DMB Rechtsschutz-Versicherung AG is parting with business-critical portions of its applications landscape. DMB, a subsidiary of the German Tenants' Protection Association, is outsourcing the operation of its industry software (aiDa/BackOffice Advanced) and its brokers' portal to Pironet NDH. The systems dynamically draw infrastructure resources from the Business Cloud of the ICT service provider. To ensure availability even in case of emergency, Pironet NDH redundantly maintains the insurer's IT at a second datacenter location. The service provider is also in charge of connecting the Cologne, Germany-based headquarters of DMB Rechtsschutz to its own high-security datacenters through an encrypted wide-area network, and in charge of managing local network components at the customer's facilities.
"The opportunity to obtain applications operation and network from a single source was a decisive criterion in our selection of provider. Because in the end, both components determine the overall availability of our core systems," DMB Rechtsschutz board member Dr. Wolfgang Hofbauer explains. The insurer uses the outsourced standard system to control all of the essential business and administrative processes, such as e.g. settlement of claims or the issuance of insurance policies.
Tried and tested security in the event of a crisis
Along with availability, Hofbauer sees security as another critical aspect for the outsourcing project: "As an insurance company, we process our customers' personal data, meaning we have high compliance requirements. Accordingly, we expect our service providers to adhere to these same standards."
Pironet NDH for example offers information security management that is certified under the internationally recognized ISO Standard 27001 and is subject to inspection every two years. "In this connection, Pironet NDH was the only provider that could also demonstrate tried and tested procedures that could guarantee access to our core systems even under crisis scenarios such as the failure of an entire datacenter," Hofbauer added.

In addition, DMB Rechtsschutz operates its applications exclusively in German datacenters. "This gives our customers the assurance that applications operation and data management are completely in compliance with the requirements of legislation in the German legal area," explains Dr. Clemens Plieth, Managing Director Service Delivery at Pironet NDH.
Outsourcing the desktop landscape to the Cloud
Once outsourcing of its business-critical systems is complete, DMB Rechtsschutz plans to outsource additional portions of its applications landscape during the coming spring. To begin with, the insurer will obtain its e-mail infrastructure from the Business Cloud at Pironet NDH. DMB Rechtsschutz will then store a revision-proof archive of its entire inventory of mail in the Cloud.
