TRC Project Honored by Women's Transportation Seminar
I-5 Gateway Reconstruction Receives Innovative Transportation Solutions Award
(firmenpresse) - LOWELL, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/11/12 -- TRC Companies, Inc. was honored on December 6, 2011 by the Orange County Chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) for its role in the . The project received the WTS Innovative Transportation Solutions Award at the Chapter's annual Awards and Scholarship Gala.
The involved reconstructing and widening two miles of freeway; adding one mixed flow lane and one HOV lane in each direction; and constructing six bridges, three bridge approaches, one pump station and three retaining walls. The project was completed for the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and Caltrans District 12 through a unique public-private partnership.

TRC was responsible for project management, design oversight, stage construction design and traffic handling, and construction support. The project included an innovative use of a seal slab to prevent ground water from reaching the roadway surface, which eliminated the need to collect, treat and dispose of groundwater. Other elements also included complex shoring systems to maintain nearby rail traffic during construction and the design of a catenary system to protect a fiber optic telephone line during bridge construction.
