POWERLINK&Partners Successful on European Tour
(PresseBox) - About 1,000 machinery, plant, system and component designers attended the European Industrial Ethernet Conferences 2011 at 11 venues in five European countries. Organized by B&R, Stäubli, Cognex and ASCO Numatics together with the Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG), the final conference was held on November 16, 2011. Information centered on how stable and solidly integrated interaction between industrial robots, image processing, fluid and control technologies can substantially improve automation performance and open up new possibilities.
The potential of POWERLINK and openSAFETY for performance improvement and cost reduction were topical in the keynote delivered by EPSG chairman, Stefan Schönegger. How POWERLINK helps integrate the core technologies of industrial automation to form comprehensive solutions was illustrated by representatives of the organizing companies in their presentations and exhibits.
Presentations by independent experts such as Stefan Krug from the Institute of Assembly Machinery and Business Management at the Munich University of Technology (TU Munich) regarding Plug & Produce robot plants and Dr. Peter Wratil of Innotec GmbH regarding ways to implement the new machine directive and its subordinated standards were especially well received.
The Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG) is an independent organization founded in 2003 by leading companies from the drive and automation industry. Its aims are the standardization and further development of POWERLINK, which was first introduced by B&R in 2001. The high-performance real-time communication system is a protocol extension of the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard, designed to ensure real-time data transfer on the microsecond level. EPSG cooperates with leading standardization organizations, such as CAN in Automation (CiA) and the IEC. Anton Meindl, BU Manager Controls at B&R, is the EPSG's CEO.
