Vossloh Kiepe Main Line supports Vossloh Locomotives in a major order from BASF
(PresseBox) - BASF has ordered 22 modular center-cab locomotives (shunter) from Vossloh Locomotives. This encompasses sixteen G 6 as well as four DE 12 and two DE 18 locomotives from Vossloh. The total scope of the order amounts to approximately 40 million euros.
For the diesel-electric models, Vossloh Kiepe Main Line Technology GmbH will provide electric components for the drive and on-board power supply as well as the LiteCon control system.
This forms the basis for the innovative "Eco Drive" automatic start/stop system by Vossloh Locomotives. This technology facilitates wear-free starting of the diesel generator set and the optimisation of the "active" operating periods. The traction and synchronization characteristics were thus improved - especially at low speeds.
Together, all of these features have a positive effect on the efficiency, availability and cost-effectiveness of the new locomotives, while at the same time conserving valuable resources due to reduced fuel consumption.
All 22 vehicles belong to the same locomotive family which is based on a modular platform concept. The economic advantage of this concept was just one of the factors decisive in BASF's choosing the Vossloh family of locomotives.
The high quota of common locomotive parts shortens the acquisition period for components. In addition, the reduction of necessary replacement parts / inventory and the greatly reduced maintenance requirements lower ongoing operation costs.
The new locomotives are to be used in mainline operation as well as in shunting services at BASF locations in Ludwigshafen, Schwarzheide and Antwerp
