Noted Native American Attorney and Advocate to Helm NAFCC's Advocacy and Membership Operations

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 02/02/12 -- The board of directors of the Native American Fair Commerce Coalition (NAFCC) has named respected attorney and Native American advocate Barry W. Brandon as Executive Director.

Brandon, who joined the NAFCC in August 2011 as Strategic Advisor, assumes the leadership role as the organization expands its leading role in promoting tribal economic development and sovereignty rights with the recruitment of new tribal members and appointment of several new senior staff.

Brandon is the Founder and President of Hvmken Consulting, a consulting firm committed to assisting Native American tribes in the area of economic development. An enrolled member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Brandon brings over 20 years of professional experience in the areas of federal Indian law and policy to his assignment with the NAFCC. Brandon has served as a Senior Trial Attorney at the United States Department of Justice and held high ranking positions at the United States Department of the Interior and the National Indian Gaming Commission. He also served as a partner at the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld, and held the position of Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the Seneca Gaming Corporation.

"The sovereignty of Tribal governments is what distinguishes American Indians from all other racial and ethnic groups in the United States. However, even though we enjoy this unique status, American Indians continue to lag far behind all groups in the country in regards to health, education and economic development opportunities. The NAFCC is dedicated to protecting our valuable rights that we have worked so hard to retain and also seeks to develop and promote new opportunities for Indian Country. I look forward to working with all members of the NAFCC and with the Federal and State governments to assure that Native Americans continue to thrive under our historic sovereignty laws," said Brandon.

Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Native American Fair Commerce Coalition (NAFCC) is a representative organization comprised of like-minded tribes and tribal members that are committed to protecting the sovereign rights -- well settled in US law -- of Native Americans to pursue business and economic opportunities for their tribes nationwide.
