School Will Give Away the Guide to Winning the War Against the Cyber Bully
(firmenpresse) - TOMS RIVER, NJ -- (Marketwire) -- 02/03/12 -- The Academy at Grace and Peace announced that they will be hosting an open Workshop in conjunction with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office that will address the issues surrounding cyber bullying February 28, at 5pm at the Academy of Grace and Peace, 1563 Old Freehold Road, Toms River, NJ.
A recent report by the National Crime Prevention Council indicates that 43 percent of teens have experienced a form of cyber bullying online.
With the advent of social networking and social media sites, staying connected online has become a major part of people's lives. This is especially true for teenagers. Statistics indicate that over 95 percent of teenagers have an email account and 97 percent of teens report using the Internet at home for personal or school purposes.
According to the report cyber bullying is:
Prevalent among 15 to 16 year-olds
Common among girls (57 percent )
Common among boys (43 percent)
Involves threatening emails or text messages
Involves de-friending or blocking someone through social networks
Posting embarrassing information and sending it to others
Displaying websites to make fun of another person such as a classmate or teacher
All parents in the Ocean County area are urged to attend this event not only to learn more about what can be done but also to receive a Free Guide "Fighting Back: a Parent's Guide to Helping Children Win Against the Cyber Bully."
In some cases of cyber bullying there have been tragic results including suicides.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office will cover the "how" strategies to combat the cyber bully within certain areas such as:
