TechAmerica Foundation's State & Local Government Cloud Commission to Publish 'The Cloud Imperative: Better Collaboration, Better Service, Better Cost' Report, at the February 16, 2012 Event in Silicon Valley

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 02/07/12 -- The TechAmerica Foundation announced today that its State and Local Government Cloud Commission (SLG-CC) will host a conference Thursday, February 16th in Mountain View, CA where top IT and government thought leaders will gather to launch the much-anticipated report of best practices and policies in cloud computing for state and local government and a complementary web portal. The event will bring together leading thinkers, executives and VIPs from public sector and IT organizations. The report will reveal best practices in planning, designing and deploying cloud computing projects for state and local governments that you won't want to miss.

Headlining the conference will be Tarkan Maner, President and CEO of Wyse Technology and Chairman of TechAmerica Foundation's SLG-CC, and The Honorable Gavin Newsom, Lieutenant Governor of California, a true believer in the transformative nature of technology for government to improve services to citizens in more efficient and economic ways.

"Cloud computing is a win-win for governments, for citizens, and for the economy as a whole. It takes the technical complexity out of the hands of an already overworked government IT department while at the same time improving services for citizens," said Gavin Newsom, California Lt. Governor.

"Many state and local government organizations are beginning to realize the important benefits of cloud computing through improved service, driven by improved collaboration and innovation -- all while enjoying the benefit of lower cost," said Mr. Maner. "The Commission's new report and online portal will deliver guidance to state and local governments to optimize the ways they evaluate, procure, and implement cloud technologies, supported by recent examples of state and local government cloud implementations and specific insights drawn from the deep public sector experience of the commission's member companies and government advisors."

The impact of cloud computing has ramifications across all industries, and none more so than state and local governments. The half-day conference represents the start of the cloud revolution and the place to learn more about the unique interplay between the cloud and SLG. A press conference will be followed by several panels featuring leading government and IT leaders: State of California CIO, Carlos Ramos; San Jose Mayor, Chuck Reed; Charlene Li of Altimeter Group, David Kirkpatrick of Techonomy; and leading industry thinkers from companies like Cisco and IBM, among others.

The highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the report, which will feature the Commissioners' vision for cloud computing in state and local government: better collaboration within and between government agencies; better services to governments and citizens; all delivered at a savings to taxpayers -- benefits that can be shared by all Americans.

"This is just the beginning of this conversation. What the Commissioners and the Foundation are delivering is a platform for sharing leading practices and successes as cloud computing moves beyond the early-adopter stage. We hope the report and the web portal will enable ongoing dialogue between industry and SLGs, to support those who are taking cloud to the next level," said Jennifer Kerber, President of the TechAmerica Foundation.
